Cape and Islands Youth Firesetting Intervention Team is a multi-disciplinary program made up of 30 members from various backgrounds. These members are divided into three groups each group being lead by a program manager.
A program director assists in setting up the groups and overseeing the program. An educational coordinator assists the groups in setting up educational sessions for program participants.
A steering committee made up of liaisons from 5 disciplines include: a Fire Department representative, a representative from the District Attorney's Office, Law Enforcement liaison, a Mental Health director, and liaisons to the Cape and Islands Fire Chief's Association.
Quarterly updates are reported to the steering committee, with constant reevaluation of operations and updates to the program being made.
Members of the Cape & Islands Youth Firesetting Intervention Team participate in the two day youth assessment training in April 2022. This training was presented by Karla Klass from the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center. Karla is an instructor with the National Fire Academy.
Members from across the country, including the Cape and Islands Youth Firesetting Intervention Team, the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, completed a 6 day Youth Firesetting Program Manager Training at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD in April 2022.
